What is Meant by Vegetarian Omega 3?

from:

Vegetarian omega 3 is the name given to omega 3 fats obtained from vegetable oils, green leafy vegetables and some plants like algae. These omega 3 fats are particularly useful for people who are either vegetarian or are unable to digest fish and fish oil products.

The most important vegetable oil which comes under this category is flax seed oil. Flax seeds are good for people with digestive problems. They are easily absorbed and provide an essential fatty acid ALA in adequate amounts.

Vegetarian omega 3 fats are effective for the treatment of inflammatory conditions like arthritis, they are also needed for the prevention of psychological illnesses like depression and anxiety, and most importantly they prevent cardiovascular disease and reduce bad cholesterol levels in the body.

ALA is a long-chain fatty acid and is broken down into its short-chain counterparts inside the body to be utilized by the bloodstream. These short-chain fats are termed as DHA and EPA. You must have heard that fish is the richest known source of these two essential fatty acids.

Fish is counted as one of the most healthful sources of omega 3 fats because it also contains a lot of other nutrients. Furthermore, DHA and EPA are more readily absorbed in the body than ALA. However, many people out there are allergic to fish and they develop infections and other health complications if they eat fish or consume fish oil products.

Vegetarian omega 3 fatty acid sources can be consumed as an alternative to fish oil. Omega 3 enriched eggs can also be consumed by people who are allergic to fish. Flax seed and many other vegetable oils like corn oil and olive oil can be used for cooking and salad dressing. These oils can be taken in their raw form as well and therefore they are very useful.

An important thing to be mentioned here is that these fats are required by people of all ages. Their importance cannot be overlooked as they are required for the prevention of many diseases. People who often become victims of psychological illnesses are DHA deficient. And those with arthritis and similar conditions are also omega 3 deficient.

There is a need to add dietary supplements containing large amounts of DHA and EPA to everyday diet. These supplements provide good amounts of these fats regularly as required by our body. They also help to maintain blood pressure at a stable level and cure skin problems.

John Collins is a content editor who focuses on a wide array of niche health topics. His latest website - Natural Dha Fish Oil focuses on omega 3 as a whole, and in particular, a natural product our editors personally use with excellent health results known as - Dha Esters

Be sure to check out our Omega 3 Dha Esters of choice, it is the natural supplement we use and recommend to friends and family, and have done for over 3 years.
